Wikileaks Reveals Israeli Strategies Against Gaza | tele sur
Israel has been maliciously targeting Gaza’s economy since the 1980s and the U.S. has had full knowledge of the wider premeditated strategies against the people of Palestine, including the complete destruction of towns without consideration of civilian population, according to documents revealed Monday by Wikileaks.
According to the documents, Israel’s National Security Council (NSC) calculated how much money they would allow into Gaza, with the intention of maintaining the economy at it’s minimum capacity, restricting the people of Palestine below poverty levels.
“The NSC acts upon the belief that Gaza should receive enough money to cover basic needs of it’s population, but it’s not interested in letting Gaza’s economy go back to a normal state,” reads one of the documents.
Furthermore, the cables report on different issues, such as the destruction of U.N. centers in Gaza, the creation of Hamas, and the wars on Lebanon.
Some of 3,925 cables describe the military strategy of destroying complete towns, regardless of civilian population, dubbed “Dahiya Doctrine” by the Embassy. The policy is based on the destruction by the Israeli military of the lebanese town on 2006.
In a meeting in 2008 between the U.S. Embassy in Tel-Aviv and the Israeli Commander Gadi Eisenkot to discussi the attack on Dahiya, in southern Lebanon, the latter assured the United States diplomatic mission that their strategy was based on “causing great damage and destruction,” and claimed that these were not “towns, they are military bases.”
Eisenkot was referring to towns like Bint Jbeil and others in southern Lebanon which were heavily and indiscriminately shelled during Israel’s second war against Lebanon.
According to one of the cables, the U.N. concludes that during the destruction of it’s facilities in Gaza between 2008 and 2009, “the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) breached the inviolability and immunity of U.N. premises…the IDF did not take sufficient precautions to fulfill its responsibilities to protect U.N. property and personnel and civilians taking shelter therein.”
The leaks are being revealed as yet another U.N. administered school was destroyed yesterday by Israeli bombings, which have now killed over 1,860 Palestinians. During the 28-day inhumane attacks on Gaza, Israel has also injured over 9,000 people, of which over 80 percent are innocent civilians, including over 400 children.

"Mother Nature’s Daughters" a NYT profile piece on women and urban agriculture.

Describing their own farms and gardens, managers suggested that women make up 60 to 80 percent of field workers, organizers and educators. Applicant pools are similarly unbalanced for summer postings, internships and certification programs.

Urban agriculture is much more diverse than is outlined in this article. Nonetheless, the questions asked are worth considering. Would you agree that women tend to lean more towards soil-based urban agriculture because its activities are tied more closely to their surrounding community? As for men, do they lean towards the more technological urban food fixes (hydroponics, vertical farming, aquaponics)?
Is urban agriculture truly a more female driven industry?
Read the NYT article.

I think the fact that men tend towards more technological options is a matter of:
A) Men tend to have more money, or access to more opportunities to make money, and networks of other men with money: especially in the horticultural industry. I had several years of greenhouse experience, for example, and couldn’t find a landscaping crew that would hire me. My younger brother, with no experience or interest in horticulture, managed to snag a nice landscaping job with an all-male crew because he “knew some guys.” Even in the greenhouse business, I had to put in two low-pay years as a cashier before managing to talk my way into a raise and working in trees and shrubs / using the heavy machinery.
B) Men tend to have more opportunities and support to acquire technical knowledge: places for learning technical disciplines are often overtly hostile to women.
C) Men are more trusted to build technical solutions: a man and a woman could submit the same grant proposal/crowdfunding presentation for a hydroponics project, for example, and the man would have more success finding funding. The disparity between the funding received by men and women in sciences and in crowdfunding is well-documented.
D) Women are more likely to suffer from “imposter syndrome" and doubt their own abilities to accomplish complex projects like these, or trust their own leadership capabilities.
E) Women don’t get taken very seriously when trying to purchase equipment and hardware.
I know I would certainly be working with more high-tech solutions if I could afford to create them, or could find someone to hire me.
It’s not like I don’t have the aptitude for it — I run this entire site and a food forest, after all!

Why are British, Canadian and Australian people so shocked when you call them out on their racism?

Because we have a chip on our shoulder and like to look down our noses at Americans and say, “well at least we're not that bad.” I mean 99% of all the evil racist stuff one hears about on social media is American so we just assume that it doesn’t apply over here.

And so we turn a blind eye to the racists and xenophobes who spread their vicious lies in our media everyday. Like the Rotherham scandal is being twisted by the media into making us believe that “political correctness” was to blame, as if it never would have happened if the police had racially profiled the suspects! Parties like UKIP, EDL, BNP and Britain First are part-and-parcel of everyday political discourse, espousing violence on the streets and lauding racism abroad, saying things like, “France banned the burqa, so should we!” and “Multi-culturalism has failed!”

But hey, who cares if POC get thrown under the bus - as long as we get to soothe our imperialist pride by getting one up on those upstart Americans!
